LOOKING FOR JAGUARS 6DAYS / 5 NIGHTS
The most fascinating animal of the rich Pantanal fauna is the largest cat on the continent: the Jaguar. We offer several options of tours looking for these amazing animals. While tracking the jaguars, you have the chances to admire interesting wildlife such as monkeys, Giant river Otters, Capivaras and numerous bird species. Porto Jofre located at the end of the Transpantaneira is the best area of seeing jaguars ,located at 135 km south of Cuiaba, we suggest staying at least 1 night before and after at another lodge along the way. This breaks up the long ride, allows for more convenient transfer time for flights, and also lets you see more species and do more activities than you would if you just went to Porto Jofre. In fact all those Pousadas we work with are excellent places to stop and spend time learning about this marvelous habnitat
Here is a suggested itinerary, which can be customized. Adding an extra night in the jaguar area would be better.
Day 1 - CUIABÁ PANTANAL
Pick-up at the Cuiaba airport/hotel and immediate transfer to the traditional town of Poconé with introduction to the geological formation and flora characteristics, then to the lodge, arriving there after a brief safari along the Transpantaneira park-road with many stops to observe its rich fauna. Dinner and night safari through the fields – a night-time drive using a vehicle equipped with a flashlight for highlighting nocturnal fauna, with the chance to observe crab-eating foxes, ocelots, and many caiman’s eyes! Overnight at Pousada Piuval.
Day 2 - PANTANAL LOW to JAGUARS
In the morning is a horse ride through the flooding fields. The horse is the most versatile means of transportation, allowing both the crossing of the flood plain and access to the distant forests. The ‘Pantaneiro’ horse is extremely docile. Other animals are so used to it that they don’t perceive the rider on the horse. Return for lunch and departure for a terrestrial safari along the Transpantaneira until late afternoon, walk and visit the towe at Pousada to enjoy the view of Bahia Piuval. Dinner and Overnight
Days 3 PORTO JOFFRE
After breakfast we will drive to Porto Joffre and reach our hotel there even Hotel Pantanal Norte or Barco Jacare will be our home for the next two nights , at the end of the Transpantaneira , we will explore the Cuiaba River searching the expected Jaguar. The population of these animals here is this region and the area is well preserved. Overnight and dinner. On the journey can be observed many other species of the rich fauna such as the Giant-river Otters, Tapirs among hundreds of birds including the Black-skimmer. During these days, expeditions would be done in varied times of the day (some tours in the early morning or late night) on a way to maximize the chance to see the largest cat in the Americas.
